McGill Jackson

McGill Lee Jackson, born September 10, 1988, went to sing with the angels on August 20, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Shawn McCleery Sr.; his grandfather, Henry McCleery and his grandparents, Dickie and Delight Jackson.

McGill graduated from West Point High School with the wonderful Class of 2006. His smile lit up the room. He was fun-loving, the life of the party and a bit of a class clown. He had a big heart and would do anything for a friend. McGill had a gift of making people feel both seen and heard; as a result, he was blessed with many friends, near and far.

McGill's music was his world. Self-taught, he played guitar and keyboards. In high school, he was in chorus, musicals, plays and a member of the band View from the Top. Later, he traveled across the country to audition for American Idol, which led him to Colorado, where he lived for many years. With the band MountainUs, McGill played festivals, concerts and became part of a great family of friends.

McGill was a true free spirit and will be missed by so many.

Cherishing his memory are his mother, Kari Jackson; grandmother, Mary McCleery; step-mothers, Linda (Richard) and Dana; siblings, Shawn Jr., Ren, Ireland, and Charlie-Ann; uncles, Chip (Jennifer), Hank (Tami) and  Marcus ( Liz); aunts, Taye (James) and Tracey; cousins, Jason (Talesha), Jami Delight and Christy and a host of great uncles, great aunts and other cousins as well as the village and friends that helped to raise and nurture him.

The memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Robinson/Olsson Auditorium 1030 Thompson Avenue, West Point, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Point Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box X West Point, Virginia 23181.
