Gertrude Martha Ackies

On Saturday, June 25, 2022, after much fight, our beloved Gertrude Martha Ackies peacefully passed away. Born on October 8, 1938 to the late Willie and Alberta Ackies. Gertrude was raised in Saluda, Virginia.

Gertrude was a devoted mother of eight children; Larry Ackies, Pearl Goins, Ann Goins, Dora Goins-Dorsey, Thelma Goins, Marcellus Goins, Roberta Goins-White and Louise Goins. She was also a very devoted grandmother of eight; Shantell Goins, Petra Goins, Anthony Goins, April Goins-Smith, Shorvon Goins, Jacob Goins, Yakira Goins and Kenneth White. And, last but not least, a devoted great grandmother of 13: Aanaesha Goins, Aalicia Goins, Pierce Minor, Jasmyne Ross, Dyamin Braxton, Jamie Owens, Deontae Goins, Ruby Braxton, Taylor Braxton, Vontasia Goins, Vontez Goins, Isaiah Goins-Smith and Maya Goins-Smith.

Gertrude always enjoyed spending time with her huge family. You could always count on her to watch a grandchild or great grandchild. All of her family and friends knew Gertrude for her cooking expertise since she was a professional chef for majority of her life. Her door was always open to whomever needed a hot home cooked meal and some TLC. She practiced holistic remedies and enjoyed taking care of the elderly or whoever was in need.

In her private time, she loved listening to gospel and blues music, watching her soap operas, laughing at  comedies, smoking her cigarettes and her adorable poodle, Benji.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie; mother, Alberta; former husband, Horace Goins; granddaughter, Shantell Goins; three sisters; two brothers and son-in-law, Brent Dorsey.

She is survived by two sisters; Ora Goins and Elaine Ackies.

There will not be a day when she is not carried deeply in our hearts, nor her advice and wisdom not remembered.

The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the funeral home followed by interment in Immanuel Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda.
