Daniel W. Banks Sr.

Daniel Webster Banks Sr., affectionately called Dan by coworkers and Webbie by close friends and family, was born on November 3, 1950 to the late Wardell Emmanuel Banks Sr. and the late Clara Cummings Banks in Middlesex County, Virginia. He was the youngest of their sons. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Yvonne Gregory and Theresa Banks and a brother, Shelby Banks.

Webster met, fell in love with and married Joanie M. Whiting in 1985. They were happily married 41 years. They raised his first son, Daniel W. Banks II (Candace) and three sons from their union, Darnell Banks (Chelsey), Darrell Banks (Antoinnette) and Joseph Banks in Gloucester County. Webster's sons and daughters-in-law were his pride and joy along with his grandchildren. 

He fought a courageous fight with various health issues but lived with a weakened heart for years that simply gave out. Webster finished his journey on this Earth on August 10, 2026.

Webster grew up and attended elementary school through high school in Middlesex County, Virginia. Upon graduating from Middlesex High School, he attended ECPI in Richmond, Virginia for two years earning a certificate in CAD Computer Science. He had also completed various courses mandated by Virginia Power.

Webster attended First Baptist Church Harmony Village in Middlesex, Virginia with his family and was baptized at a young age. He believed in God and was not ashamed to share what God had done in his life.

It was amazing how he could make friends with people quickly. Webster was always sharing his life stories and helping people along their life's journey. Webster was a hard worker who took pride in doing whatever job he was assigned and in doing it well. He loved to work with his hands and used his mind to solve problems others could not.

In his early twenties, Webster worked for Abernathy Construction Company in Richmond, Virginia for two years. He worked for Doc Jones' Auto Parts Shop for three years; hauling cars, working on them and picking up car parts.

In 1981, Webster went to work for Virginia Dominion Power (known now as Dominion Energy) as a groundsman but after a year, he became an underground linesman. He worked in that position for 28 years. Webster retired from Dominion Energy Company in 2010 with 29 years of service.

Webster also took on the job of a Safety Coordinator for Williamsburg, Gloucester and Mathews while working at Dominion. His job was to attend safety conferences and report back to his follow workers in his division. He took pride in enforcing and encouraging his fellow linesmen to work with safety in mind and to work with the goal of living to get back home to their families.

Webster enlisted as a reservist in the Army National Guard in 1983 and served for six years. He was trained in addition to building bridges as a construction engineer. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant E5 in 1988 before retiring from the service in 1989.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife and children, his elder brother, Wardell E. Banks Jr.; four grandchildren, Davant, Liam, Tamora and Nova; nephews, Frank Gregory (Kim), Quincy Gregory, Daniel Young, Karl Young (Calvette) and Raymond Young; nieces, Sherry Green Henry (Michael) and Renee Young and great nephew, Isaiah Gregory and Trey Henry and great niece, Shirleya Henry. Webster leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces. great nephews and friends.

He was loved and greatly appreciated.

The funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026 at First Baptist Church Harmony Village, Locust Hill.

Interment in the church cemetery. The viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
